My Story

For me. I went into medical school bright eyed.

I was excited by the opportunity to become a doctor and serve my community.

Somewhere along the way - the life I envisioned as a doctor and the reality I was in stopped lining up.

Medical school was difficult for me.

I passed my exams but I was just doing the bare minimum.

I spent most of my time trying to learn skills that had nothing to do with my career in medicine.

Residency

Residency was its own struggle -

I soaped into Family Medicine in a rural town in Pennsylvania.

I did not enjoy my time. So much so that I thought if I could just move into a bigger city maybe it would fix everything.

I was able to transfer to a new program as a PGY-2

This was in 2019 right before COVID hit.

I ended up matching into a great program just outside of Boston.

When I got there. I was overwhelmed with joy but reality hit me quiet hard.

I was so far behind my co-residents in terms of knowledge and ability.

My first program had not prepared me at all and I was basically at the level of an intern.

I spent that whole year just trying to catch up.

All the while, my heart was never really in it.

I’m Rami - A residency drop out

Since dropping out of residency - I’ve done it all.

Starting a business that failed, working in health-tech clinical operations, running a podcast and documentary series, raising $1M+ in startup funding, and now CEO of a multi 7 figure business.

Dropping out of residency or medical school is an incredible sensitive topic filled with shame, guilt and anxiety.

As physicians in training - you sacrifice everything. You’ve likely spent most of your life preparing to becom a doctor and now.. suddenly that identity and career is falling apart.

There are many reasons that physicians drop out of medical school and residency.

The point of this account is not to go into the details, shame your or judge you.

Whatever reason or circumstance. You don’t need to explain.

Some drop out for personal reasons, health-reasons - in my case a “soul” reason.

Others face toxic situations or simply are let go from their programs.

Whatever the reason. You don’t need to explain.

Here you will find guidance on starting your new journey ahead and navigating the challenges and blessings that will come your way.
